# Why HarZaviya exists

News rarely reaches a reader from the outlet directly any more. It arrives as a screenshot in a WhatsApp group, a clip, a tweet, a forwarded headline. Some still take one paper or watch one channel. Either way, what reaches a reader is a fragment. One headline and one figure, with no way to see what else the outlets published about the same event, or whether they published it at all.

A screenshot is the worst case. It carries no link and often no source or date, so nothing on it can be checked.

For many Pakistanis abroad the screenshot is all there is. A cousin forwards a court ruling or a fuel price change. Was it reported everywhere, or by one outlet? Did every outlet give the same figure? Is it even from today? Nothing on the screenshot answers any of that, and there is no local paper to check it against.

The differences between outlets are not small. When the State Bank held its policy rate at 11.5% in July 2026, [14 outlets covered it](https://harzaviya.com/stories/285-state-bank-of-pakistan-maintains-policy-rate-at-11-5). BOL's headline added "amid geopolitical turmoil and flood fears". Dawn named the governor and Tribune reported what he said. Samaa noted business demands for lower rates. On 3 August two outlets carried the same oil wire, every figure identical down to the 2352 GMT timestamp, under two different headlines. None of this is visible from a single fragment.

The tools that make this visible sort outlets on a left/right axis. Ground News, the closest comparison, covers Pakistani outlets, and [its rating page](https://ground.news/rating-system) says the ratings are made "in the context of the U.S. political system". That axis does not describe the divide in Pakistani news, and a rating is still someone else's judgement of each outlet, which the reader is asked to accept before reading a word.

What was missing is simpler than a rating. HarZaviya puts the same story from every outlet it reads on one page, as each outlet published it: the headline, a short excerpt and a link to the article. It rates nobody and does not guess at why an outlet chose its words. Where outlets reported a figure, the page shows the figure and how many of them reported it, and a figure is stored only if its digits appear verbatim in the outlet's own headline or excerpt. The [gold](https://harzaviya.com/gold-prices), [fuel](https://harzaviya.com/fuel-prices) and [stock](https://harzaviya.com/stock-exchange) pages are built the same way, and every chart on them says that HarZaviya is not a price source.

We read [24 Pakistani outlets](https://harzaviya.com/sources), more than 55,000 articles so far, and group the articles about the same event into [one story](https://harzaviya.com/). We do not say what the differences mean.
